It can be a daunting task to choose an addiction treatment program for you or your loved one. In today’s society, almost all families are touched by alcohol or drug addiction. There are many causes for this, and they are far from being only recreational. The stresses of individuals today, both young and old, are enormous and can be overwhelming. It’s easy sometimes to turn to alcohol or drugs to try to mask the problems of the day. Before you realize it, addiction has taken place.
Research Different Treatment Centers
Start by researching different treatment centers to see what type of programs they offer. Some may only offer the traditional alcohol and drug rehabilitation treatment programs. Others may have a variety of programs from which to choose. If this is the case, you can select a program that will fit your individual needs and preferences. For instance, one may prefer a faith-based program which has bible studies and religious services and classes, while another may prefer a holistic approach to rehabilitation. The holistic program is a natural approach to healing. The client is treated with nutritious meals and vitamin supplements. No prescription medications are used. Natural and herbal remedies for complications are used instead. In faith-based programs, the client has pastoral counseling and prayer to help with their recovery. There are secular programs for those who wish to have this type of program. It all depends on the individual and what they feel will best help them on the road to recovery.
Check Staff Credentials and Qualifications
A good professional treatment center staff always treats clients and prospective clients with dignity and respect. They are not judgmental. They can answer any and all questions you have about the facility and the programs offered. They should be open and honest about their facility and success rates of the facility. Of course, the staff should always be professional and yet friendly. They will be counseling you or your loved one. They should never answer your questions in a vague manner. If they can’t answer all of your questions to your satisfaction, look elsewhere.
No treatment center can guarantee that a client will not relapse and turn back to drugs or alcohol after completing their treatment at the facility. If they do, a big red flag should pop up to let you know something is not right. There is no way that it is possible to make such a guarantee. There are no guarantees when it comes to alcohol and drug treatment. Much depends on the client and if they truly want to break the chains of addiction. You should look for a treatment center that offers an aftercare program.
A client is never completely recovered from alcohol or drug addiction. Just because they have spent time in the rehabilitation facility, no matter how much time, does not mean that they will not have to fight urges and really work to remain sober after leaving the facility. Many treatment centers offer aftercare programs such as sober living houses, halfway houses, or group and individual counseling daily or weekly after returning home from the facility. This gives the client a safety net in case they feel they are losing control again and fear relapsing.
Cost and Accommodations
It would be nice if clients didn’t have to worry about the cost of the facility. However, we all know that is not so. Check and see if the treatment center you are researching offers a payment plan. Some centers will also take insurance for the part of treatment that it covers. Some centers want their complete payment at the time of registration. If this is not possible, talk to the staff and see if a payment plan can be worked out which will fit your budget. The treatment center does not have to be a luxurious spa-type facility. The main things to check are the living arrangements and the food. As long as the facility is clean and accredited, you can receive all the professional care that you would at the most expensive treatment center. Check out the dining room to make sure they have nutritious and healthy meals for the clients.
If you check these things, you should be well on your way to a full recovery. There are many different treatment programs from which to choose for drug or alcohol addiction. There is sure to be one to suit your individual needs and preferences.
