In any person’s life, without communication skills, that individual will struggle ten times harder than others with the problems that they face in their everyday life. One must be able to convey to others their feelings, their wants, their needs, and their advice and encouragement. If an individual is having trouble with this, they need help through communication courses.
When an addiction is present, without communication, he or she will never be able to fully recover from the problem. Inside of communication courses, a person learns how to talk about the things that are truly bothering them in their life. It is about mental expression and not letting things remain inside, causing you to turn to drugs or alcohol as your way of escape. Every person needs to be able to talk and communicate to someone else their feelings and fears. Once these things are said out loud, a small amount of relief comes over the individual.
At Best Choice Rehabilitation, communication courses consist of understanding the significance of the addiction, learning the steps you need to become and remain sober, and learning how to work through your problems step by step. Through communication courses, the client learns how to deal with the temptation of using drugs or alcohol after leaving Best Choice Rehabilitation. They learn to be their own individual self and have the courage to say “no” instead of just going along with the crowd when drugs or alcohol are involved.
Acceptance
Inside of our carefully planned communication courses, each client also learns acceptance. This does not mean that they will accept their life for what it is and move on. Accepting your addiction is the first stage in any person’s recovery. Through verbal communication and visual communication, every client will learn to accept that their addiction is destroying their life; in doing so, they will be able to move past their addiction towards a life of recovery. Furthermore, once you have accepted that your addiction has become a problem, you will be able to continue towards your goal of complete sobriety through Best Choice Rehabilitation. Oftentimes, individuals spend an enormous amount of time in denial about the fact that they have a drug or alcohol problem. Even though deep down they have admitted it to themselves, they still refuse to admit it to others. They simply do not want to face the fact that they need help for an addiction. One must admit that they need help and accept the fact that they cannot do it on their own without the help of a rehabilitation facility.
The Four Drills
During your stay at Best Choice Rehabilitation, you will go through four communication steps, or what we like to call “the four drills.” These drills are set in a specific order to have the highest level of success for each individual person. Each drill also has its own specific goal that ties into the other drills, making the programs flow together easier for reduced stress. The four drills of communication include:
- Being present in a communicating class without having to necessarily participate
- Being able to be face-to-face with another person
- Being able to confront whatever verbal communication someone throws at you
- Being able to better communicate altogether
The drills set the tone for the entire stay at Best Choice Rehabilitation. Participating in each aspect of the communication courses is encouraged. You will gain a better sense of self-worth, understanding, and relief if you give yourself a chance to talk to others about your addiction. While you are receiving help for your addiction problems, you are in turn helping someone else with their addiction by communicating with them. So, in turn, you are supporting and encouraging each other in your journey to recovery. No person needs to feel that they are on this journey alone.
